Queer Humboldt's primary office is on the unceded, traditional and ancestral lands of the Wiyot people. Each year, Queer Humboldt contributes 1% of our income to the Wiyot Tribe through the voluntary honor tax program. Learn more about that program and donate here:
Here is a resource to support tribal governments in updating policies to indigenize statutes related to gender and sexual orientation diversity:
Each year on the Spring Equinox, Queer Humboldt joins orgs and governments from the US and Canada in honoring Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ Celebration and Appreciation Day. In 2024, the County of Humboldt, the City of Arcata and the City of Eureka all made proclamations, making them the first in the nation to acknowledge this holiday which was brought about through Two-Spirit advocacy.
You can promote this growing movement by posting on social media (social media toolkit), and by encouraging your local government leaders in making proclamations (examples and a template) of their own.
Did you know that Queer Humboldt helped author lessons for the Native American Model Curriculum? Below is a link to a 6th-8th grade classroom lesson for learning about Two-Spirit, featuring the above art by Queer Humboldt staff member, Andie Martin:
