Arcata Zen Group
The Arcata Zen Group is a Zen Buddhist group which welcomes anyone to participate with them in sitting & walking meditation. The AZG BOD official statement is that “AZG is an inclusive community and welcomes all without regard to race, gender, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, or disability.” A number of LBGTQ-identified people have been a part of the AZG sangha over the years & found it to be gay-friendly. AZG group meditation occurs Sundays at the Northcoast Aikido Dojo behind the New Outdoor Store on the Arcata plaza at 8:10 AM & at 8:50 AM. There are also regular opportunities for group sits at the AZG Zendo at 740 Park in the Arcata hills; in Eureka; & in Trinidad. Eureka Mindfulness
You don’t have to be Buddhist to enjoy the scientifically-proven physical and psychological benefits of Buddhist mindfulness meditation! The Eureka Mindfulness group offers mindfulness (“vipassana”) meditation and dharma discussion. We meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Beginner instruction is at 7:15pm, a twenty-minute meditation starts at 7:30pm followed by a discussion about applying vipassana in daily life. A free-will donation of any amount is appreciated.
We meet in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church, 730 K Street (7th and K) in Eureka. Use the ramp entrance on K Street and enter through the door marked “church office.” Enter the first room on the right.
